The Daily Iraq: 8 August 2013

Iraq Body Count figures for August 7: 34 killed

IBC total to-date for August, 2013: 190 civilians killed

A vicious double attack on the home of a police officer in Tikrit that happened late Wednesday/early Thursday killed 13 and may be the first attack that can be directly attributed to July’s massive prison break operation. Gunmen killed the police officer, his wife, and their three children, and then as a crowd gathered around their home a car bomb was detonated that killed another 8 people. The attack seems to have been led by the brother of the police officer, who was one of the escapees from Abu Ghraib and who blamed his brother for informing on his activities, leading to his imprisonment.
