There are two urgent causes in particular need of support right now, so if you’ve got the ability and inclination, please do so.
The first is relatively new. Massive flooding in Malawi last week killed at least 176 people and has displaced a couple hundred thousand. UNICEF is collecting donations to help children affected by the disaster, Scottish charity EMMS International, which does regular work in Malawi, is also asking for help, and Doctors Without Borders is always a good option in these cases as well.
The second is one that’s been around, sadly, for some time now: the status of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees in camps in Lebanon, Jordan, and elsewhere. The need has become acute as some 800,000 refugees try to make it through the winter with almost nothing. Please consider giving to the UNHCR if you can.
