Hurricane Patricia, Typhoon Koppu, and Syria: where to donate

Not as bad as it could have been

Incredibly, the massive and powerful Hurricane Patricia seems to have struck Mexico in the perfect spot to avoid major loss of life and to minimize property damage (an effective response to the storm by the Mexican government also helped). Fox News Latino is reporting that six people have been reported killed by the storm so far, a tragedy of course but a number that’s far lower than it could have been for a storm like this.

However, although the damage was not nearly as bad as people feared it might be, the storm did still damage homes, crops, and infrastructure, so if you have the ability please consider donating to one of these charities:

While we’re on this subject, the Philippines were battered by a tropical storm of their own, Typhoon Koppu, about a week ago. That storm killed a reported 43 people and caused tens of millions of dollars in damage. Here are some ways you can donate to relief efforts there:

And finally, because it continues to be the worst humanitarian catastrophe on the planet, please also consider donating something toward the care of Syrians and Syrian refugees, perhaps at one of these links:
